Gopro Hero external microphone mod

I think that a few of Gopro Hero owners have noticed, that the onboard microphone is not suited for all situations. Especially when the camera is used on a car, then all you hear is the noise of the wind. You can of course buy a "dead cat" which helps to remove the noise, but a better option is an external microphone placed somewhere inside the car.

In order to use an external microphone you need a donor housing for the camera and a Usb to 3.5mm adapter.

Why do you need a donor housing? Well because we will make a hole in it for the adapter to pass through.

First we mark the spot with a marker.

Then we take the Dremel and start drilling the first holes.

I've noticed that the plastic is quite meaty. There we have first three holes.

The housing after the "operation" and ready to use.

So that's all there is to it. We will see how the microphone sounds in the future.
